From Replacement to Reliability: A Maritime Client’s Success with Reworthy’s Workshop Service

August 4, 2025

The Challenge: Ensuring Reliability of Critical, Heavy-Duty Assets

A leading maritime client in the UAE, managing a diverse fleet of vessels, faced a critical challenge with their specialized, large-scale batteries. Each unit represented a major capital investment, and degradation created a dual risk: soaring replacement costs and the danger of unexpected failures at sea. Servicing these heavy assets required complex logistics, while replacing them—at over AED 350,000 per unit—proved unsustainable. The client needed a solution that would not only reduce costs but also deliver reliable, data-driven insights to prevent failures and extend the lifespan of their assets.

The Solution: Partnering for Predictable Performance

With a workshop-driven service model, Reworthy established a partnership that transformed regeneration into a predictable element of routine maintenance.

Here’s how our solution worked:

Optimized Maintenance Logistics:
By coordinating regular batch shipments to Reworthy’s advanced regeneration workshop, the client shifted from reactive fixes to proactive planning—minimizing disruptions and eliminating costly emergency logistics.
Preventive Regeneration:
Guided by our expertise and real-time onboard data, the client now schedules “preventive regeneration” every 2–3 years—well before failure occurs. This proactive strategy keeps batteries performing at peak health.
IoT-Enabled Diagnostics & Tracking:
In our workshop, each battery is connected to an IoT-enabled regeneration system that records thousands of data points to monitor health parameters and optimize the regeneration process. This information is consolidated in a custom dashboard, giving the client full visibility into each battery’s condition.
Certified Performance:
After regeneration, each battery’s performance is validated and recorded in a digital report, available directly through the client’s dashboard.

The Results: Extended Lifespan, Guaranteed Reliability

By moving from replacement to regeneration, the client realized substantial operational and financial advantages:

Extended Asset Lifespan:
The client extended the functional life of their marine batteries by an additional 1–2 years, effectively turning a depreciating asset into a long-term investment.
Cost Savings:
In just 18 months, the client realized an estimated AED 2.5 million in savings by avoiding multiple battery replacements and cutting annual operating expenses.
Reduced Logistical Hassle:
The workshop-based model, combined with IoT-driven scheduling, transformed last-minute logistical challenges into a streamlined and predictable process.
Enhanced Reliability:
By adopting preventive regeneration, the client minimized unplanned failures and ensured reliable, safe operations across their fleet.
Testimonial: “Reworthy has completely changed our approach to battery management. We no longer wait for a battery to die; we proactively maintain it. Their workshop service is efficient, reliable, and their data gives us the certainty we need to run our fleet seamlessly.”
